My New Rockwood Mini Lite 2205S Travel Trailer

On April 28, 2021 I plopped down a $1,000 deposit and ordered a Rockwood Mini Lite 2205S travel trailer from Wana RV. My wife and I have been planning and saving for this day for over 3 years. We expect delivery of the Mini Lite anywhere from August to November.

There were many considerations in determining our purchase. I must have looked at over a hundred travel trailers before deciding that the 2205S was perfect for us. Let me detail some of my considerations.

UVW/Unloaded Vehicle Weight: The 2205S comes in at a bit over 5,100 pounds dry. I estimate I'll load the travel trailer with about 500 pounds of water, supplies and accessories. My truck has a 7,000 pound towing capacity. Going down the road with the water tanks 1/4 full, I'll be at about 5,500 pounds. That amount of weight should not over stress my truck.

Length: At under 24 feet, the Mini Lite should not be a big fat target for strong gusts of wind. That's a real concern for many RVers. Travel trailer slab surfaces are perfect sails. Obviously, a fishtailing travel trailer is no fun. I originally considered a 26 and 28 foot travel trailer, but decided a shorter one would create less headaches for my Chevrolet Colorado. A mid-size truck.

Price: My goal was to purchase a travel trailer for $25,000 plus TTL. I hit my goal perfectly. If I had a bigger budget, I would of purchased a higher end product. I've had my beady eyes on a Winnebago View 24D. That beauty lists for $185,000. Another RV I loved was the Oliver Legacy Elite 2. That Tennessee fiberglass molded travel trailer typically sells for over $65,000. Definitely out of my budget.

Construction & Amenities: You get what you pay for? In my price range you typically get fiberglass and Azdel construction plus aluminum framing, solid wood door and drawer fronts, a porcelain foot flush toilet, solid surface kitchen countertops, a DC fridge (the 2205S comes with a  Go Power190 watt solar panel, a modest charge controller and a 1,000 watt clean sine wave inverter) a residential queen bed, and in the case of the 2205S two very nice recliners. These comfy seats are in the Perfect TV Watching Position.

In the end, I kept to my budget and limitations. I found a product that met most of my needs. The Mini Lite is a definite compromise. Like many enthusiasts, I look forward to personalizing my travel trailer. One goal is to make the Mini Lite more boondock capable. Travel Trailer Must Have Accessories!

Today, I ordered a new travel trailer. A 2022 Rockwood Mini Lite 2205S. Here is my list of MUST HAVE accessories. Yes, I'll have most of these MUST HAVES in the back of my truck when I pick up my travel trailer. The RV black tanks aren't going to dump themselves.

I plan to stay in Shipshewana, Indiana for a few days to confirm that all systems are working. Did I miss any MUST HAVE accessories? By the way. Shipshewana is in the middle of Amish Country. I've never been there. Should be fun for Annie and I.

Who Will Offer Me The Best Deal For A New Travel Trailer: Fun Town RV or ExploreUSA?

I've been shopping for a new travel trailer for a couple years. After intense analysis, I have determined that I prefer the price, features, length, weight and capacities of the Flagstaff Micro Lite 22FBs and it's sister product the Rockwood Mini Lite 2205S.

Flagstaff travel trailers are sold by nearby ExploreUSA. Just down the road, the Rockwood brand is given floor space by Fun Town RV. With a little luck, one of these Fort Worth area dealerships will give me a fair deal on a new travel trailer. Yes, I'm crossing my fingers. If I don't get a reasonable price for a travel trailer, I'll continue to truck bed camp this summer. It's looks like it's gonna be hot one, again.

Upgrade Your RV Audio

For under $1,000 you can upgrade your RV speakers to an entry level B&W surround sound speaker system. Buy the subwoofer and don't forget to include a pair of satellite speakers! Definitely not too big for mid to large size RVs.

Here's a link to the sub woofer: https://amzn.to/3x0KAAr

Here is a link to the speakers. Yes, you'll need at least two: https://amzn.to/3e9h2Yq

Maybe dump the budget audio/TV head unit while you are at it. IT'S ONLY MONEY! Here's something you may like by Marantz for $2,500. You have that much in your left pocket: https://amzn.to/3gcqKw4

Today, there are many audio and video options. For some it's a matter of price and others space. If you are an audiophile, a good stereo or AV system is worth the price of entry.

Sometimes, It's Just Nice To Be Home

Last week I was camping in Arkansas. It was great to see the beautiful clear lakes, rolling hills and tall pines. Today, my wife and I are just relaxing in the yard after a very busy work week. Well, my wife worked. I mainly fixed and cleaned stuff around the house and yard.

Here's a shot of me relaxing in my backyard. I mowed it yesterday. It's about 75 degrees, we have quite the cool breeze and the humidy is currently non-existent. We're having a sweet weather respite before the inevitable intense Texas summer heat. It's April 10, 2021 and I can't complain.

Arkansas's Lake Ouachita State Park

This past weekend I camped at Arkansas's Lake Ouachita State Park. For my YouTube channel, I had the opportunity to capture on video everything from tent camping sites to luxury cabins. In the video I showed in detail the various facilities including the bathhouses and restrooms. You will also see my wife Annie and I hiking on the various trails. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Here is a link to the nearly hour long video I produced for YouTube. I hope you like it. Please send me your comments, questions and suggestions. https://youtu.be/SGT5iZ0LpXw
